Parishioners Suggestions — and what happened next
At the Annual Parish Meeting in May 2025, parishioners put forward ideas for the use of the Parish Council’s Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL) funds, and raised a number of other local issues. The table below sets out each suggestion alongside the position reported back at the 2026 Annual Parish Meeting. It will be updated as matters progress.

| An extension to the burial ground or the burial area of the churchyard. | This would depend on the potential purchase of land from the farmer behind the cemetery, and is considered very challenging given the five-year time limit on using CIL funds. |
| A feasibility study into a footpath close to the A358 from the West Bagborough turn (campsite and holiday cottages) to the Farmers Arms, as holidaymakers are endangering themselves and others by walking along the A road. | Information from a neighbouring parish’s feasibility study suggests this would cost more than the funds available. A footpath from the campsite to the Farmers Arms would also benefit only part of the community. |
| Improvements to the state of Honeyball Lane, including deterrence of, and barriers to, the deer. | Responsibility lies with the landowners on either side of the lane. One has taken some measures; the other has not. |
| A bus shelter for the young people who are collected from the Village Hall car park by school and college buses. | As this would serve a very small proportion of the parish community, the Parish Council did not take the suggestion forward. |
| Improvement to the bus shelter on the A358 near the easterly part of Combe Florey. | It is unclear how the shelter could be improved: it cannot be moved closer to the road because of visibility constraints for vehicles. |
| Repair to the bent rail on the bridge by the easterly entrance to Combe Florey from the A358. | The rail was made good with the assistance of a parishioner, at no cost to the Parish Council. |
| New railings for the existing burial ground. | The Parish Council contributed £2,650 towards the cost. |
| A third defibrillator, at the Farmers Arms. | The Parish Council contributed £2,000 to the Combe Florey Defibrillator Group for this purpose. |
| The churchyard single gate to the west and double gates to the east are in a poor state of repair. | The Parochial Church Council has resolved this. |
| Rubbish bins and/or dog waste bins in the village. | Last requested and investigated two years ago, but no vote was taken. This could be looked at again in the coming year. |
| Overhaul or replacement of the reflective bollards on the A358 near the West Bagborough turning. | This would be a matter for Somerset Council or National Highways to provide. |
| Concern about the increased volume of traffic driving through Combe Florey, and the speed at which some of it travels. The proposed new development of five homes at Hawkins Barton will add to the volume. | At the 2026 Annual Parish Meeting, Somerset Councillor Mike Rigby suggested the use of a Speed Indicator Device (SID), at an approximate cost of £3,000, which could be moved between a variety of locations around the parish. |
| Concern about a rising spring close to the grass verge at the front of the church. A new salt bin for this location, or capturing the water and piping it to the drain, could be considered. | A parishioner has made best efforts to divert the spring so that some of it flows into the existing drain from the road. The drain is too high for the water to be piped into it directly. |
| Concern about the safety of the turning onto the A358 close to the Farmers Arms — views along the main road are heavily obscured in both directions, making it a potentially dangerous junction. | Somerset Council has made some amendments over recent years. |
